Path to Divinity 14

As a sincere apology for being late last update, here is the next chapter! Although I'm not sure if it's good, please enjoy as we return to the main character's storyline and POV (finally).

I awoke to two voices arguing. At first, I wasn’t sure what they were arguing about, or even who the owners of the two voices were, but I was sure they were arguing, or debating, or negotiating. But it was loud and noisy, at least to me and my tender one year old ears, so I decided to believe it was arguing.

“He should rebuild our race!”

A masculine voice yelled out that statement. Finally coming to my senses, I realise that the two voices I hear are coming from my parents. They seem to be discussing about me. Having come to this conclusion, I feel a bit weird. Deep down inside, I feel like I don’t want other people to talk about me and my future, I guess. I think this makes it clear that I haven’t accepted these parents. Maybe I’m still clinging on to the slivers of memories I have from my previous life… No, that can’t be the case, I was an orphan then… I guess I’m not used to the idea of having parents yet, seeing as this isn’t something that someone can get used to in just a single year. Well, I digress. Back to the moment at hand, I don’t get up just yet, and pretend that I’m still asleep. It seems to work, seeing as they don’t perceive the fact that I was listening to their every word.

“I think that Arty should be able to choose his own future.”

A calm and clear feminine voice rang out. It was my mother’s voice I can’t say I wasn’t moved by this sentence, and I felt myself feeling happy and warm inside. So this is what motherly love, that always praised thing, feels like. The warm and bubbly feeling inside me felt comforting, and I cherished this feeling inside of me, trying to keep it locked inside forever.

“Our race, the Invern, were the ruler of a mighty empire before, but now we’re down to just this village! We have been kept isolated inside of this village by the Alliance and the Holy Lunan Empire for nearly a thousand years now! We’re forced to be next to the Great Enchanted Monster Forest, and we’re forced to pay more taxes than any other settlement in the area! We need justice. Our race needs it! Our son is a genius, he should understand!”

Hearing the passionate voice of my father go on about things I had never heard of before, many things started to dawn upon me. I realized that our race was declining, and that we weren’t in a good situation. It also happened that our race, the Invern, used to be the rulers of a great empire. Thinking back, I had heard of there being an empire called the Invernus Empire before, but I never would’ve thought that it was actually the Empire of the Invern… I let the surprise and shock wash over me, and as I felt a sense of duty, a sense of honour, for being an Invern. I wanted to help our race rise into glory once again, I truly felt a sense of duty for rebuilding our race.

As I prepared to get up and vow to rebuild our race, to rebuild the Invernus Empire, I was stopped. Not physically, but mentally. I was stopped by what my mother said in reply to my father’s hot-blooded argument...

Path to Divinity 13

I'm very sorry for being two days late in the update. Please forgive me. I wasn't sure what I was doing in this chapter, so if you don't like it, I'm sorry, and I don't think I'll be doing another flashback anytime soon. If you like it, please tell me, and I'll try and plan the next one better. This chapter will probably be one of my worst... Well, here it is, please enjoy!

Blinking awake, I rose up to find myself in an unfamiliar environment. Rising up off of the wooden bed I was sleeping on, I looked around cautiously. Observing my surroundings, I found I was inside of what seemed to be a log cabin. The furniture inside was placed in a nice and tidy manner, but there was no specific design behind the placement, and you couldn’t feel any thought to it: it was just neat and tidy, nothing else.

Seeing this room, I couldn’t help but feel a bit weird: I was sure that I was finished, but I ended up surviving, and finding myself in this cabin. Feeling curious as to who owned the small log cabin I was in, I decided to raise myself up of the wooden bed, and tried to get up onto my feet, only to find myself feeling a wave of weakness washing over me, causing me to uncontrollably fall back down onto the wooden bed. Finding that I was incredibly weak, I decided to just hope that I was in good hands and wait for whoever brought me here.

I was startled awake by a creaking noise, and I immediately got up because I heard someone come in. Looking at the person who came in, I saw that it was a he, who had short hair, with a white colour as pure as the blanket of snow that would cover most of the countries of the alliance during the cold winters it faces.

“Are you okay?”

Being asked that question, I felt something inside me changed. I had never been cared about by anyone in the courts, so I felt happy, elated even. But, before waiting for me to respond, he continued speaking.

“You were in a dangerous situation before. You just collapsed in the forest near here. If I didn’t find you, you would’ve been teared apart by monsters by now. Well, don’t worry about what didn’t happen, and just relax for now.”

While saying so, he took something out from a bag behind him and put it in front of me. I took a look at what he had placed in front of me and realized that it was some dried meat. I looked over to where he was standing before only to find that he was now sitting down beside me. Looking back at the food, I realized just how hungry and worn out I was. I realized that I was not in the state that I was in before, I was tired, worn out, and wanted to just settle down. The person besides me seemed to be a noble, from the way he acted and spoke. His grammar was proper, and his actions were refined. Even the furniture in this cabin weren’t in states of which commoners in the alliance would own. Taking all this in, I decided to do an all or nothing, and I steeled myself to ask a simple question, as I was a servant at heart.

“Could I work as a servant for your house?”

And believe it or not, I was responded to with a yes.

Path to Divinity 12

Hello, this is HCHH with a new chapter of Path to Divinity! (clap clap clap ;( ) Anyways, this chapter is about the main character's maid. To those of you who want to know what happened to the MC after that, please continue to read!

My name is Tay Rayn, I work as a maid for a family of Invern in Inveron, the Inver village. Now, you might be wondering how I, a mere Tor, ended up as a maid in the middle of a secluded village of a rare race. Well, to explain this would take a long time, and I decided to write down this story. Although I must say that things like what happened to me are quite common, just not many of those who go through what I did stay alive in the end.

I, Tay Rayn, used to be an Covert Ops Maid in the Rinth Imperial Court. Rinth, being a kingdom that was part of the Welt Alliance couldn’t be said to be too powerful, but there were still many power struggles within its small borders, and I was wrapped up in one of these, causing me to be forced to flee the country.

The job I had was actually quite hard for people to obtain. I was only able to obtain this job because of two main things. The first was the fact that I was completely loyal to the king at the time, and the other was the fact that I was an High-Class swordswoman. Not just anybody can become a High-Class sword-user, seeing as it requires long years of training along with at least a certain amount of talent. The job I had was nice, and there weren’t many downsides, if you took away having to be in the vicinity of some disgusting nobles. To me, who was completely loyal to the king, I could hold in my disgust, even if they were flat-out stripping me down with their eyes.

One day, this all changed, as I was given a mission by the king: to assassinate an influential noble. This wouldn’t have been enough to make me leave though, as I was already prepared, being hired as a Covert Ops Maid for a reason. The reason my loyalty snapped was because of the fact that after having finished my task, and given payment, I was chased down. These weren’t just any pursuiters either, they were the Royal Pursuition Force, made up of High-Class Scouts and Sword-users. I was hunted because I “knew too much”. This completely broke any lingering attachments I had to this kingdom, especially after being shown the disgusting side of the politics within the kingdom. Deciding to flee for my life, I fled the kingdom into the neighbouring dukedom, Rhine. While I was in Rhine, though, I was still under pursuit from the Royal Pursuition Force. Going from one country to the next, I was officially on the run. After months of living on the run wearing down on my soul and body, I entered into a small forest, and, unable to handle it anymore, I crumbled down within the woods, unable to take even one more step.

Path to Divinity 11

I don't know what I was doing with this chapter. I literally forgot half way. Well, please continue to enjoy Arty's backyard adventures. This hasn't been proofread yet (will be done soon). Well, anyways, here's the chapter (can I call it that? it's kinda short...) :

Slowly turning around, I faced the source of the thing breathing down my back. I think it was suitable to call it a monster. It took the form of a rat. Normally, you would think of those small furry grey rodents. But this wasn’t anything like that. It was about 3 meters tall (9.9 feet), and had brown fur that looked and probably felt like metal spikes. My knees were clearly buckling now, but I gathered my courage and willed them to stop. Stopping the buckling, I realized that the rat was looking at me, and hadn’t attacked yet. Realizing this, I jumped back in order to gain some distance. While jumping back, I cast [Gust] on myself to propel myself away from the rat by creating a gust of wind. I think the rat took that as a threat, because all of it’s furs stood up straight, and it looked nearly twice it’s previous size. Seeing the rat raise it’s paw and prepare to strike me, I immediately cast another spell, this time I cast a defensive spell, [Wall of Wind]. My spell created a wall of wind in front of me, and successfully blocked the rat’s paw… Or not. *BAM* I was smashed by the rat’s paw and threw across the garden. Feeling myself barely conscious, I got really angry. It enraged me, to feel so powerless. Casting [Heal] on myself, I got back up, only to fall back down, throwing up blood and stomach acid, not a pleasurable feeling. Thinking to myself, I pushed all the blame to the rat, and decided that no matter what I did, I would kill this rat, I would annihilate it.

Ignoring my body’s screams of pain, I poured all of the mana in my body in order to cast one of the strongest spells I knew, the intermediate-class fire spell [Fireball]. I felt all of my energy, my mana, being pulled out of me through my hand. Feeling the searing ball of fire in front of me, I used the last of my will to fire the fireball, locking onto the giant rat. With the last of my energy, I jerked my head up, and saw the burnt remains of the giant rat. Feeling a truly happy, proud feeling of success in my chest, I felt the lump of rage within me dissolve as I passed out, completely exhausted. On the brink of consciousness, I heard gentle voices calling out to me.

“ARTY!!!!”

...Or maybe not so gentle, but caring nonetheless. Hearing the yells of concern, I felt safe once again, and I finally fell unconscious.

Path to Divinity 10

This chapter is a lump. Read at your own risk. Also, I'm thinking of starting to post either 1 or 2 chapters per week.

Pushing open the door (which wasn’t latched), I walked out of the house for the first time since my birth. Feeling the gentle breeze of the wind, and I squint my eyes at the blinding rays of light coming down from the sun, as if purifying all of the impurities that I had. Putting a foot forward, I noticed the plants around me. The plants were surprisingly well managed, with a certain look to them that would make you want to stay there for a whole day, just admiring the flowers. But I didn’t come out of the house for the flowers in our garden, nor did I come out to get a breath of fresh air and a sight of the sun. I came out of the house to find adventure. Placing one foot in front of the other, I continued on my journey outside. Just walking into the open world was exhilarating for me, and I was feeling excitement with every action, every step, every breath. Adrenaline was coursing through my body as I put my right foot out in front of my left. This time, I spotted my destination. It was a forest. A relatively small forest. From inside the house, I didn’t feel much from this small forest, but now that I was in front of it, standing before it, it appeared as if this small forest was a giant as it loomed above me, seeming intent to swallow me whole. I was once again reminded that I was but a teensy toddler, and yet I steeled my will, and took another step forward, this time, in the direction of the forest. I looked back at the house I lived in, and I took in the sight of this medieval-esque building, I once again felt the reality of me being reincarnated. (as if magic wasn’t enough!) Preparing to turn back around, I felt a hot breath breathing down my back as I felt a shiver going down to the base of my spine…

Path to Divinity 9

Thank you for waiting so long, and here is the start to the second arc of Path to Divinity, Toddler Arc. Another bit of explanation in this chapter. Sorry if it's either too technical or not technical enough.

Hello, I’m one years old now. Nothing much has truly happened in the past couple of months, so I haven’t logged it much. To put it simply, every day since then has been spent on increasing my skill with magic. I can now proudly call myself a Beginner-Class Mage. I can’t call myself a magus yet because, as I said before, I don’t have the physical capacity to learn Combat Arts as  a one year old toddler. I’m not too worried about this, though, seeing as I can always train later on when I have the physical capacity to do so.

Now, back to talking about magic. My skill with magic and mana capacity have been increasing by leaps and bounds. I can now use all the elements of magic to the level of being in the middle of the Beginner-Class. Reading from the book, it seems that I should be able to go against a normal Class X Monster. About monsters, they are separated into ten classes based on their strength: from I to X, with X being the weakest and I being the strongest on this scale. Although each class also is separated between strong and weak. Now, enough about monsters, and back to talking about myself. I have started to be able to use my mana for things other than magic. This is another proof that I am a Beginner-Class Mage, because when you are a Beginner-Class Mage, you can start using magic for other things because of the Mana Mastery that you have gained. I can now spread my mana out of my body to be able to sense any disturbances in a radius of about 10 meters (about 33 feet). This has allowed me to do so much more. With a few abilities including this one, and the magic that I learned, such as [Elemental Bullet], or [Elemental Guard], and remembering all the entries about monsters and adventure, I decided to set my sights to the outside for the first time since I was reborn…
